About IDEP’s CBDM Trainings

CBDM training options | How you can get involved | See related slide shows | See related videos

The CBDM department at IDEP is continuously developing new culturally appropriate and accessible methods to disseminate knowledge on community disaster preparedness. These include training on how local communities and community facilitators can identify and address risks and threats in their area.

As a direct result of these CBDM trainings, community members develop community risk maps, which are posted in public areas within their communities. Click here to view a slide show of Community Disaster Maps created to date.

Whenever possible, local facilitators are recruited along with local partners who are trained to assist with the socialization and ongoing capacity building of their communities in disaster preparedness and risk reduction. In this way new people are trained, who in turn are able to support their own communities in the ongoing process of disaster management.

At this time IDEP offers several types of CBDM trainings

Community CBDM Trainings
To Increase community knowledge and ability to practice disaster management
  • Knowledge about disaster - What is disaster? What disasters and hazards are your communities prone to? What are the signs of disaster occurring, what to do if they happen and how to use the CBDM kit for effective disaster management
  • Community preparedness and risk reduction - History of disaster in the area, community asset and risk assessment, list of medical facilities and key contact people in the area, disaster preparedness and planning actions appropriate to local hazards.
