Disaster Management > Emergency Response Destruction in Aceh

The tsunami of December 2004 completely destroyed much of the west coast of Aceh. Towns, villages, roads and other infrastructure were swept away in minutes along with over 126,000 people, in one of the greatest natural disasters in living history.

“Aceh Aid at IDEP” (AAAI) was launched on December 27th 2004 to assist victims of the Asian Tsunami. From its outset, it was AAAI’s policy to deliver assistance directly to those who needed it most, through trusted partner organizations. AAAI was able to send relief supplies by land from Medan to Banda Aceh and by sea to isolated communities along the coast.

Through December 2004 and August 2005 IDEP & its partners delivered over half a million dollars of “intelligent aid” to thousands of people throughout the area..Click here to learn more
