| Gurih Gurih Gizi Vitamin A, Iron and Iodine Formula |
|
|

|
| An innovative solution to common nutritional deficiencies |
 |
| Gurih Gurih Gizi (GGG) is a delicious ‘topping’ which is made from locally available ingredients. The formula is easily made in local homes, schools or as a small enterprise program by local women’s groups. The main ingredients are vegetables that can be grown and harvested from small scale kitchen or community gardens.
This formula was originally developed by nutrition scientists in the Philippines. Research and field testing of the formula showed that one tablespoon of GGG has all your daily needs for vitamin A, iron and iodine.
The formula has been approved by nutrition scientists as being especially good for children, pregnant and lactating women. Malnourished children who consumed just one teaspoon of the formula daily gained on average one kilogram per month.
GGG is delicious when it is sprinkled on rice, porridge, noodles etc.
If stored in air tight and sterile containers, GGG will keep for 3 months. If kept in a refrigerator it will keep for 6 months.

| The multiple benefits of GGG programs |
 |
| As the formula can easily be made at home, this program provides a sustainable way of generating income for women who, by producing and selling the formula, can create an economically sustainable local market as the product addresses needs within their own communities.
To date, Yayasan IDEP has successfully pilot tested the production and use of this innovative formula through local NGOs that focus on midwifery support as well as in local schools as part of our ‘Learnscapes’ education programs. At the pilot school, ’Gurih Gurih Gizi’ Gardens were created on school grounds and harvested only 3 months after planting.
’Gurih Gurih Gizi’ information has also been included in Yayasan IDEP’s community based crisis response curriculum as a simple solution for instant nutrition support for people in disaster areas.
IDEP’s media team has produced a series of GGG fact-sheets which explain how to grow the plants used as the key ingredients, and how make the formula.

| Plans for ongoing project development |
 |
| Yayasan IDEP Foundation hopes to be able to further develop this program as it has potential for a wide-reaching ability to address nutritional needs of many of the poverty stricken areas of Indonesia.
We are currently seeking support to introduce GGG gardens and the simple production technology into a local orphanage and two community clinics. This will give some of the local people who are most in need access to a self sustainable solution to common nutritional ailments.
If you are interested in supporting this program please contact us for more details, if you are ready to pledge you support now please go to our donations page.
