| Today |
 |
| Today Yayasan IDEP is seeking support for developing a new location for this type of demonstration site and meanwhile is supporting other groups with networking, non-formal education and seedling development. |

 |
| One of these groups is Oded & Jabu’s Gardens... |
 |
Two years ago Oded had an empty lot next to his house and a young friend name Jabu who wasn’t sure how he was going to support himself. The two of them put their heads together, asked some friends about their home gardens, looked through gardening books, collected seeds from friends and went to work. Today they have a 12 are garden filled with fresh vegetables, fruit trees, medicine plants, fish ponds and a growing business to boot.
After 2 years of compost production, soil amendment, earthworks, irrigation, trial and experimentation, they are producing enough vegetables to supplement their own diets and make enough money for Jabu to support his other expenses.
On any given day you can walk into Oded’s garden and find local varieties of tomatoes, basil, peppers, spinach, corn, rice and other organically grown foods such as dill, lettuces and mint.
Jabu delivers hand packed boxes of fresh produce directly to clients ranging from private households to small restaurants.
One corner of the garden is set aside for seed plants so that Oded and Jabu can produce strong, healthy local varieties without spending money on commercial seeds.
Yayasan IDEP has a seed saving and plant propagation area there as well.
Another corner is filled with medicinal plants that are used for local remedies among Jabu and Oded’s circle of friends.
From end to end the garden is alive with butterflies and other beneficial and beautiful insects.
Anyone interested in receiving fresh organic vegetables in the greater Ubud area can contact Jabu directly at (0361) 972-087.

| Another group is the Ekasari Farmers Goups... |
 |
| The Ekasari Farmers Groups are one of the results of the sustainable community development project that was initiated in 2000 by Nyoman Suma Artha in Ekasari -- a village located on the border of one of Bali last remaining National Forests. See the Sustainable Communities Workshop page of this website for more details.
This project has grown from one village of concerned citizens to what is today a growing network of farmers striving to convert to organic farming in several areas of the island.
Now in 2004, the framers groups are ready to start distributing their produce island wide. This first harvest includes papaya, tomato, carrot, sweet corn, eggplant, chili peppers and long beans. Much more is soon to come, including honeydew melon, watermelon, potatoes, zucchini, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and mixed lettuce.
This produce will be available at the following retail outlets on Bali:
• Kuta - Pepitos
• Legian/Seminyak - Bali Deli, Sula Restaurant, Sunrise Organic Market
• Ubud - Bali Buddha
For more information, to arrange a visit of the farming sites or for wholesale or bulk buying information please contact - Nyoman Suma Artha by e-mail at: balizen@yahoo.com or phone 0811-388314
The Ekasari Farmers Goups thank you for your purchases, which will help these and other farmer groups support their families and make Bali a healthier and better place.
