IDEP’s Headquarters in Ubud, Bali

Why we have our project headquarters here
When IDEP began there were very few active NGOs on Bali, as the island was considered an area of Indonesia that was well developed economically. IDEP’s founders understood that despite its thriving tourism industry, Bali was still facing critical environmental, social and economic problems, many of which were hidden by rapid development.
People from all over the world have encountered the cultural and biological diversity of Indonesia through Bali. This makes Bali well positioned as a center for global awareness about the challenges faced by the people of Indonesia. Our location on Bali increases IDEP’s ability to generate support for our programs, which then support projects across Indonesia.
Bali’s central location within Indonesia is also very conducive to running successful national scale trainings and project dissemination / networking.
• What we do at our headquarters
At IDEP HQ we develop all of our projects and programs, which includes intensive research and planning to ensure that our work is as effective as possible. We also network and share resources with NGOs countrywide.
Our Media & Publishing department is based at our HQ. The department is active with ongoing public awareness campaign design and curriculum development. We also organize the printing and distribution of educational tools and media. Our website, which aims to be an online resource for Indonesian NGOs country- wide, is developed here.
At IDEP HQ we are constantly developing our Reference Library with publications about Sustainable Development, Permaculture / Environmental Management and Design, useful publications for plant research and reference, and many other related topics.
To develop some self-sustainability for our project HQ while supporting other community-based social projects island wide, IDEP has opened a gallery / store which is located just below our offices. The Bali Cares store showcases products made by the beneficiaries of local NGO projects.
Our HQ also acts as the administrative hub for our local programs.
