After the Bali Bombings in 2002, IDEP saw an enormous nee for the strengthening of local communities’ ability to prepare for and directly respond to disasters. The organization’s Disaster Management Department creates and promotes appropriate media, curricula and programs for the education and empowerment of Indonesian communities so that they can better prepare for, respond to and recover from natural and man made disasters. IDEP has developed a fully integrated Community Based Disaster Management Kit.

How IDEP responds to emergencies in Indonesia
IDEP works through a trusted network of volunteers and partner organizations to get quick and effective results to the people that need help. IDEP emergency responses are quick, usually within 24-48 hrs of an emergency, and effective - more than US $1,000,000 of aid was delivered directly to devastated communities in Aceh in response to the Asian Tsunami.
IDEP and its partners have successfully assisted with emergency relief for the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2002 & 2005 Bali Bombings, the 2005 flooding in NTB / Lombok, the 2006 Earthquake in Central Java, the 2006 Earthquake and Tsunami in Pangandaran and the 2007 Flash Floods in Aceh & North Sumatra.
The aim of all IDEP relief efforts is to get aid in as quickly as possible to the communities that need it most. To achieve this, IDEP conducts rapid assessments to ensure that our delivery of aid is quick, effective, the right kind of aid for the circumstances, and that it is delivered to the people that need it the most. Purchasing, transportation and on site coordination of aid is done in conjunction with our network of volunteers and partners, seasoned emergency response specialists.
As a small and mobile organization working in conjunction with a network of partners Indonesia wide, IDEP is able to reach disaster victims more quickly than the larger Aid Organizations. Our emergency response efforts are constantly monitored and IDEP stays in regular contact with the larger aid organizations to ensure that there is little or no overlap with other big aid initiatives. |
