Environment Programs > Bali's waste management problem

Indonesia suffers from a serious waste management problem.

In Bali, until just over a decade ago the majority of household wastes were organic in nature. People would recycle wastes back into the natural environment by throwing them in rivers and / or burrying them in their back yards.

Today there are tons of inorganic wastes being produced and no sound infrastructure to deal with them. Public awarness about the negative impacts of burning plastics and other toxic by-products is almost non-exsistent. The public health and environmental problems that result are massive.

IDEP is working in several ways to increase people’s ability to reduce, reuse and recyle wastes, click here to learn more.
